The Gambia formally known as the Republic of The Gambia basically is a nation located in Western Africa. It is said to be the smallest nation in the African continent.

Gambia shares its borders with Senegal towards the north, south and east and with the Atlantic Ocean towards the west. River Gambia passes through the inner section of the country and ends at the Atlantic Ocean. Gambia attained independence from the British Empire in the year 1965. The current capital of Gambia is Banjul.

According to the census reports the total area of this country was estimated to be, 10,380 square kilometres. As of the year 2005, the total population of this country was said to be 1,517,000, having an average population density of 153.7 per square kilometre.
