Field poppies (Scientifi name- Papaver rhoeas) generally grow in a cooler climate. They prefer full sun to partial shade to help them grow to their full potential and size. They grow till a height of about two to five feet and have bright two inch flowers with satin petals. Field poppies also reseed quite fast and successive plating will ensure that there is continuous bloom.

Historically speaking, they have also been associated with Veterans Day. A time when the soils were left significantly affected by World War 1, only to result in a full bloom of the field poppy. While planting poppies it is generally advised that the seeds be sown in early spring or in fall. They are very popular in the Europe as well as in the United States.
