Well, for one - and this is probably the most common - fungi or fungi spores which get on plastics during the mfg and packaging, if not prevented or removed, can show up later as damaging mold on consumer products . . . Leading to warranty claims and additional costs and forfeits to mfr's and sellers alike. This is why responsible mfr's take great pains to sterilize plastic products before packaging; and many include dessicants inside the packaging as additonal safeguard to prevent "moisture" damage . . . At least until the product is opened by final buyer and put to use. Fungi are known to travel all over the work in that way . . . In in the product distribution system.
