Delphi is an archaeological site and an ancient town situated in central Greece. It was once the seat of the oracle of Apollo (the famous Greek God, second only to Zeus). Situated near Mount Parnassus, the place attained a huge importance in the world for the Greek religion. Mythology has it that the oracle or the temple of worship was dedicated to the goddess of Earth Gaea, who married Uranus. Apollo who was desirous of the oracle for its infallible authority and authoritative status, attained the oracle by killing Gaea's child the serpent python.

From 582 BC, Delphi entered history books for being the site of the Delphi games. These were a series of athletic games and musical contests held every four years, in the honor of the God Apollo.
