Trypanosoma is basically a monophyletic from the class Kinetoplastida. These are a group of unicellular parasitic protozoa. The characteristics of Trypanosoma are as follows:

- It has a mitochondrial genome called Kinetoplast.
- They are a classic model of antigenic variation.
