The surface temperature of Mars is usually very cold when compared with Earth's, it can drop as low as -140 C and can be as high as 20 C. The low temperature of Mars is due to a comparatively thin atmosphere which does not have any greenhouse effect like the one we have on Earth. The summer temperatures in the south can even go up to 30 degrees Celsius. Mars experiences some of the most powerful dust storms in the Solar system which tend to occur when Mars is closest to the Sun.
