Salinas is a name of the county seat of the largest municipality of Monterey County in California, USA. In the current estimation from the California Department of Finance, says that the population is about 148,350 showing a slight decrease as compared to 2000 which leads to high cost of living. The suburban part of the city is located at the edge of the Salinas Valley which is eight miles from Pacific Ocean and has a mild climate. Salinas is a major agricultural centre and also the home town of famed writer and Nobel Prize winner John Steinbeck.

Its economy is mainly based on agriculture. Situated in one of California's best farming regions, the area produces a good quality of fruits and vegetables, which includes lettuce, strawberries, carrots and spinach. Many major vegetable producers are operating from Salinas.
