Bishkek is the capital city of Kyrgyzstan. It was founded in the year 1878. It was originally founded as a Russian Fortress called 'Pishpek'. From the year 1926 to 1991 it was renamed to Frunze. The city of Bishkek is 800 m in altitude. It is also an extension of the Tien Shan mountain range.
The buildings in Bishkek have various Soviet-Style apartments. The houses in Bishkek are laid out in a grid pattern. Kyrgyzstan attained its independence in the year 1991; this event took place after the break-up of the Soviet Union. The city was named as Bishkek after the independence. In this day and age Bishkek is slowly developing in to an advanced country. It is slowly urbanizing, with all the good quality restaurants and café's.
