Sussex is a very old and Historic County which is located in the South East of England. The name is derived from the ancient kingdom of Sussex in which the county falls. To the north of Sussex lies the county of Surrey, to the North East of Sussex lies Kent. To the south of Sussex lies the English Channel. To the west of Sussex lies Hampshire. Sussex is divided into 4 parts; East Sussex, West Sussex and the city of Brighton and Hove. Sussex was granted the status of a city in the year 2000, before that the only city in Sussex had been that of Chichester. The original divisions of East Sussex and West Sussex were first established in the year 1189.
