There are literally dozens of foreign scientists, assuming the foreign relates to Non-English individuals, with major contributions to different aspects, or disciplines of science. Here is a selection of five of them.

  • Albert Einstein
The father of today's modern physics, Albert Einstein, was a German-born physicist. His four major papers on the photoelectric effect, which ultimately gave rise to so-called quantum theory, both general and special theories of relativity , Brownian motion and, of course, E=mc2, revolutionized views on space, time and matter.

  • Louis Pasteur
French chemist and biologist Louis Pasteur is mostly remembered for remarkable breakthroughs made in the discovery of causes and the prevention of diseases. As well as reducing mortality in cases of puerperal fever, he also created the very first rabies and anthrax vaccines. The process known as pasteurization is the result of some of his work.

  • Marie Sklodowska Curie
Marie Sklodowska Curie, the Polish-French scientist and the first individual to receive two Nobel Prizes, was famous for pioneering research and the theory of radioactivity, techniques used to isolate radioactive isotopes and the discovery of the elements radium and plutonium. The unit of radioactivity, the curie, is so named in honor of Marie and her husband Pierre. The element curium, as well as three radioactive minerals, namely cuprosklodowskite, curite and sklodowskite were also named in their honor.

  • Dmitri Ivanivich Mendeleev
Dmitri Ivanivich Mendeleev, also referred to as Mendeleyev, was a russian scientist. Mendeleev created the original version of the periodic table. He also used this table to predict properties of as yet undetected elements.

  • Johannes Keppler
Johannes Keppler, another German scientist, was a brilliant mathematician and astrologer. Best known for the so-called eponymous laws in planetary motion, he created several works, which later formed a basis for Isaac Newton's theory of gravity.
