There are a vast amount of notable scientists not born in America who have made massive contributions to the scientific community. Here are a few examples of prominent foreign scientists from throughout history:

• Charles Darwin (1809 - 1882)
Darwin was an English naturalist who is most renowned for establishing his theory for the pattern of evolution and the process of 'natural selection'. He published his theory in the 1859 book 'On the Origin of Species'. By the 1870s the scientific community and most of the general public had accepted Darwin's theory as fact.

• Marie Curie (1867 - 1934) and Pierre Curie (1859 - 1906)
Marie Curie is famous for her pioneering research on radioactivity. She was the first person to be honored with two Nobel Prizes - winning the award for both physics and chemistry. She was the first ever female professor at the University of Paris and she shared her 1903 Nobel Prize with her husband Pierre Curie.

• Stephen Hawking (born 1942)
Hawking is an English theoretical physicist and cosmologist who has written many scientific books. He was the Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at the University of Cambridge for 30 years between 1979 and 2009.

• Louis Leakey (1903 - 1972)
Leakey was a Kenyan archaeologist and naturalist whose work helped to establish human evolutionary development in Africa. He helped to create organizations for future research in Africa and made significant steps to help in the protection of wildlife.
