There are thousands of scientists, both foreign and local, that have helped contribute towards the knowledge and understanding of the world that we have today.

Two of the most famous foreign scientists could be listed as Albert Einstein and Marie Curie, while two local, or American, scientists include Thomas Edison and Linus Pauling. Of course, these are just a few of the scientists, both foreign and local, that have had important contributions in science.

  • Albert Einstein
Born in Germany, Albert Einstein was the physicist who developed the theory of relativity. This development led to a revolution in physics that has continued until this day. Einstein is regarded as the father of modern physics and won a Nobel Prize in 1921. After his work in relativity, he was later acknowledged for his research into establishing the quantum theory.

  • Marie Curie
The Polish-French scientist is renowned for her pioneering work in radioactivity. She was the first person to win two Nobel prizes in both physics and chemistry. She developed the theory of radioactivity and discovered the two elements radium and polonium.

  • Thomas Edison
The American scientist was the first to invent the light bulb, moving picture camera and the phonograph. He was also one of the first inventors to match mass production with his inventions so that they could be made in bulk.

  • Linus Pauling
One of the most influential chemists in history, American born Linus Pauling was one of the first to work in the fields of molecular biology and quantum chemistry. He has received two Nobel prizes in different fields and was one of the first to recommend a high intake of vitamins, namely vitamin C.

These four men and women are just an example of the number of foreign and local scientists that have contributed knowledge and research to the field of science.
