The City of Calcutta is situated in the state of West Bengal in India. It is now known as Kolkata. The city has an estimated population of almost 6 million, with an extensive urban population of more than 14 million. It is the fourth-largest city in India. It was the capital of British India till 1911. Calcutta derived its name from the three villages that it comprised of (Kalikata, Sutanuti, Gobindapur) before the arrival of the British.
