Food in the stomach and gut is broken down into molecules and absorbed into blood and (mostly) lymph, then transported around the body by blood and lymph circulation. Blood is pumped into the arteries by the heart, lymph piggy-backs on blood flow because the main lymph vessels run alongside the main arteries.
